Beginning October 2, 2020, a breakdown of U.S. official fee increases

On August 3, 2020, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a final rule for patent fee adjustments, which will take effect on October 2, 2020.

Most of the costs of this adjustment are fine-tuning, but there are some exceptions, such:

1. The appearance accelerated review fee was increased from 900/450/225 to 1600/800/400, with the largest increase, with a direct increase of US $700 for large entities;

2. The certification fee for invention patent applications was increased from 1000/500/250 to 1200/600/300, with an increase of US $200 for large entities;

3. The annual late fee was increased from 160/80/40 to 500/250/125, with an increase of US $340 for large entities.

In order to achieve reasonable cost savings, applicants may consider paying the relevant fees before October 2, 2020, with the following detailed adjustments:
